Goals

GOALS

The Council accomplishes its mission through the following:

  • Demonstrating and encouraging a commitment to philanthropic and volunteer leadership at Jackson State.
  • Providing opportunities to connect Council members with students, faculty and staff.  Council members serve as mentors, advisors, and role models for students and meet with top JSU administrators, deans, program directors, faculty, and staff to be well informed advocates for higher education.
  • Organizing events, activities and initiatives that engage Council members with each other and to a school/college/program that may be of interest to them, which often lead to their involvement and philanthropic support for that unit. Activities of the Council include meetings featuring outstanding women faculty, talks on campus by University leaders, workshops and forums on women related causes/issues, and attendance at academic and non-academic events.

COUNCIL INITIATIVES

  • Expand membership in the Women’s Council.
  • Fund a minimum of three Council endowed scholarships at the level of $50,000 each.
  • Engage the JSU community by hosting a leadership in philanthropy symposium to promote the Women’s Council and women’s leadership that will lead to stronger and longer-lasting relationships with the University following the symposium.
  • Support the JSU Development Foundation in leadership development through the identification of women who would be potential leaders for the JSUDF Board of Directors and University Boards of Visitors.
  • Develop Council Ambassadors through leadership, scholarship, and mentorship.
