Mississippi Writing Center Association

The Richard Wright Center for Writing, Rhetoric and Research has been affiliated with the Mississippi Writing Center Association (MSWCA) since 2000 and will host the 2014 conference in collaboration with Mississippi College: 

Collaboration: Achieving Excellence Through Association.

We require your presence: Please come collaborate across the state as we develop a framework for effective professional engagement. Attendance will grant a three-year membership in MSWCA.

Tutor and Director Collaboration Day: Time to spring into action!

Collaboration for Tutors:

  • Resource Development

    • What’s missing in your center?

    • A tutor driven discussion on the resources we need and the resources we can share.

  • Tutor Training Reflections

    • How are you trained? How about your neighbors?

    •  A tutor driven discussion on the types and models of tutor training across the state.

  • Tutorial Reflections

    •  What’s happening in your center?

    • A tutor driven discussion on challenges of tutoring in their centers.

Collaboration for Directors:

  • Framing the Association:

    •   Bylaws have been drafted to outline a clear organization structure, but they need the potential membership’s oversight and approval.

    • Conference attendees will be able to discuss and modify the bylaws before ratifying them at the March 7th conference.

    • A Board will be elected from engaged and interested writing center affiliates to manage and maintain the institution.

  • Setting Our Goals

    •  Sessions to determine the specific goals of the institution will be held.

    • Attendees will direct and determine the goals of the association for the next year, including setting potential locations and dates for the next MSWCA event.

  • Closing Session

    • Directors and Tutors Together

    • Tutors share what it means to be a tutor in Mississippi, highlighting what they hope MSWCA can do for them.

    • Directors share the structure of the association.
