Project 1: Effect of V. amygdalina extract on the growth of breast cancer cells in vitro (Ernest Izevbigie, Ph.D. and Carolyn Howard, Ph.D.)
Rationale: To determine whether V. amygdalina extract inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells in vitro. |

Rationale: To begin a systematic, evidenced-based, cancer control process in Mississippi. |

Project 1: Improving the Knowledge of Stroke Symptoms (Mohammad Shahbazi, Ph.D)
Rationale: To increase the availability of, and access to, stroke educational materials leading to an increase in knowledge level of stroke symptoms among African Americans in selected counties in Mississippi. |

Rationale: To increase the utilization of the Jackson Medical Mall as an exercise facility in inner-city Jackson. |

Rationale: To provide a curriculum based intervention strategy to motivate youth to participate in fitness activity as well as change negative dietary practices. |
