Interdisciplinary Research Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS)
Program
The focus of this program is Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research that
fosters an environment of excellence and support for faculty and student
research. The main objectives of the MBRS Program are to: (a) improve
and expand the institution's biomedical research capability; (b) increase
the number of minority faculty and further develop minority faculty expertise
in biomedical research; (c) increase the number and quality of minority
students with research skills applicable to careers in biomedical sciences.
More specifically, investigators conduct biomedical research in areas
relative to environmental toxicology, biophysical chemistry, bioanalytical
chemistry, medical entomology, biochemistry and medical microbiology.
Facilities for all management and research activities are provided through
the University's School of Science and Technology. The Department of Biology
and the Department of Chemistry continue to provide speciality laboratories
for faculty/student research.
Jackson State University
has been funded competitively by this program since its inception since
1972.
