On behalf of the faculty, staff and students, I welcome you to the School of Science and Technology (SST) website. Whether you are a prospective student, a Jackson State University (JSU) alumnus, a corporate partner seeking qualified candidates, interns, competitive graduates, or information on our cutting edge research, I trust that you will find this site informative and helpful.

SST is a vibrant academic unit that supports the threefold mission of JSU by providing high quality education in science and technology (S&T), advancing scientific knowledge through scholarly research in specific S&T areas, and providing technical and educational S&T expertise to the local, regional, national, and international communities. It has therefore been our vision to develop and implement academic activities that give recognition to the School of Science and Technology, as a leading producer of S&T graduates who are competitive at the national and international levels.

SST is comprised of six departments including: Aerospace Studies; Biology; Chemistry; Mathematics; Physics, Atmospheric Science & Geosciences; and Technology departments. The School offers an array of comprehensive and integrative academic programs that are truly innovative and cutting edge. The Biology Department offers a B.S. degree with a concentration in biology, environmental science or marine science. In addition, Biology students may concentrate in any of the pre-health career programs. A M.S. degree is awarded in biology or environmental science, and a M.S.T. degree is also offered in collaboration with the College of Education. The Chemistry Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The Mathematics  Department offers B.S., B.S.Ed., and M.S.T. degrees. Its undergraduate teaching training in mathematics is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The Department of Physics, Atmospheric Science and Geosciences awards a B.S. degree in physics or meteorology, and a B.S. or M.S.T. in science education. A new B.S. degree program in earth system science has recently been approved by Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board. The Technology Department offers a B.S. or M.S. in technology education or industrial technology, a M.S. degree in hazardous materials management, and a M.S.T. degree in science education. An interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree in environmental science is offered by the School. The Chemistry and Technology Departments have received accreditation from their respective national organizations: the American Chemical Society, and the National Association for Industrial Technology.

SST is a nurturing, caring environment where our highly dedicated faculty and staff members are concerned with the full career development of students. In our School, scientists work together to design rigorous curricula and deliver courses in a way that integrates concepts, principles and skills from different, but complementary disciplines. Multidisciplinary research by teams of faculty, students, and post-doctorate research associates, provides excellent opportunities for student research training and faculty development. Coupled with over 125 years of experience in teaching, research and service by a dedicated and caring faculty and staff, this integrated and innovative approach produces highly talented and competitive graduates with versatile problem-solving abilities. Much emphasis is placed on mentoring and motivational activities to ensure that our students get the best S&T education, they can possibly have.  The synergism between our research and teaching activities is a very unique advantage that SST offers to its students. Hence, our innovative approach to research, education and service provides SST with a significant competitive advantage in achieving our mission of producing highly skilled S&T scholars who are capable of addressing current and future challenges in a cost-effective manner.

I have been inspired by the drive of being the best, and the School of Science and Technology demonstrates the same drive for being the best in all that we do. Please browse through these web pages to learn more about our school, or better yet, come meet with us, visit our teaching and research facilities, and see first-hand how we are doing !!!
