With the expansion of educational opportunities that Jackson State University has provided over the years to young men and women from diverse backgrounds, health care is one of the many services to our students. Based on the wellness concept that healthy students will be more receptive to the academic opportunities offered them, good health care will allow our students to emerge from the university with much stable bodies as well as minds.
As we look at the majority of students enrolling at Jackson State University, we are unaware of their socio-economic backgrounds just as many of the students themselves are unaware of their own general health and their need for health services.
The University Health Center contributes to the overall responsibility of the university for education of students. We focus on critical areas of lifestyle and behavior, which promotes healthy lifestyles, and the prevention of diseases in the physical, emotional and social areas.
The University Health Center assists in providing both in classroom and out-of-class educational opportunities for health, emphasizing healthy lifestyles and stylizing health center service, personnel and resources.
The University Health Center provides active health promotion, health protection and disease prevention services for all Jackson State University currently enrolled Jackson State University students and faculty/staff and their dependents who are members of the Health Center Plan.
Our services provides appropriate health care in accordance with the standards of professional practice for the care of acute and sub-acute conditions, illnesses and injuries rather than comprehensive medical care and with standards of professional practice and ethical conduct and a concern for the ever increasing cost of health care.
