The McNair Program at Jackson State University began in October 1999 under the auspices of the Division of Student Affairs. Funds are provided to assist 18 scholars over the life of the four-year program.

Objectives of the program include supporting the personal and professional growth of the 18 McNair scholars. Enrichment, programs, facilitated by faculty, staff and community visitors, address individual and group interests and needs of scholars. Examples of topics include GRE preparation, financing graduate education, and applying for graduate study.

Individual counseling sessions are held with scholars to address their questions about graduate programs, career opportunities, and any subjects of interest or concern. Examples of services provided include individual assistance with course assignments, major research projects, and career goals clarification.
