The Jackson State University Department of Public Safety was organized under legislative authority granted by Senate Bill No. 1710, approved 1962.\u00a0 The Department’s\u00a0powers and responsibilities are described in the Higher Education Laws of the State of Mississippi.<\/span><\/p>\n

The JSU Department of Public Safety\u00a0 is located on the campus of Jackson State University behind the JSU Student Center.\u00a0 We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.\u00a0 The number for the department is 601-979-2580.\u00a0 The JSU Police Department\u00a0is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Police officers are certified and receive their training through the Jackson Police Training Academy, the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training\u00a0Academy, and the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute.\u00a0 Police officers receive in-service training throughout\u00a0the calendar year.\u00a0 Additional on and off-site training is conducted by the department in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The department is currently staffed with 46 employees, which includes (16) certified\u00a0police officers\u00a0and (16) security officers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The department’s\u00a0rank structure\u00a0includes the Chief of Police,\u00a0 Operations Captain, Administrative Captain, (4) Lieutenants, and\u00a0(4) Sergeants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Support staff includes\u00a0an Emergency Manager, (2) System Information Specialists, (1) investigator,\u00a0(6) state certified dispatchers, (1) Receptionist, (1) Clery Compliance Officer, (1) Special Events Coordinator, and an Office Manager.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The department’s professionally\u00a0trained police and security officers are dedicated to providing customer friendly services to the campus community.\u00a0 Officers patrol the campus by foot, bicycles, and in vehicles.\u00a0 Several officers and supervisors are on duty 24 hours a day.\u00a0 The Communications Unit is staffed with well trained and certified dispatchers who answer calls for service.\u00a0 Dispatchers are responsible for dispatching officers and other emergency personnel to incidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
