Is graduate school in your future? <\/b><\/p>\n

Graduate and Professional Schools Day<\/b> is a service to junior, senior, and graduate students who contemplate further study upon their graduation from Jackson State. \u00a0This event occurs every September.<\/p>\n

As you near completion of your undergraduate degree, you will be faced with new, sometimes difficult, decisions about what to do next. The options are many — one is that you might wish to continue your education by attending graduate school or professional school.<\/p>\n

Making the decision to attend graduate or professional school can sometimes be a hectic process. But, once you have reached this decision, it’s time for the next steps to finding and getting into a graduate program.<\/p>\n

FIRST STEP: <\/b>Prepare<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

While preparing to apply to graduate or professional school there are three questions to consider:<\/p>\n

\u2022 What do I want to do?<\/p>\n

\u2022 Who has the program?<\/p>\n

\u2022 Which admissions test is needed?<\/p>\n

SECOND STEP: Apply<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Once you have answered the above questions and you’ve narrowed your program choice, it’s time to apply.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Prepare, take and send scores for the appropriate admissions test<\/p>\n

\u2022 Request applications<\/p>\n

\u2022 Prepare personal statement<\/p>\n

\u2022 Request transcripts<\/p>\n

\u2022 Obtain letters from references<\/p>\n

\u2022 Prepare for the interview<\/p>\n

\u2022 Inquire about financial aid (such as scholarships, fellowships, graduate assistantships, research assistantships)<\/p>\n

THIRD STEP: Follow-up<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Plan at least one visit to campus for a face-to-face meeting with the program chair or an advisor<\/p>\n

\u2022 Note deadlines for application and notification of acceptance<\/p>\n

\u2022 Accept offer and follow up with additional materials if needed<\/p>\n
