{"id":5,"date":"2012-08-26T18:39:17","date_gmt":"2012-08-26T18:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chemistry\/?page_id=5"},"modified":"2023-10-19T18:40:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:40:47","slug":"department-of-chemistry-biochemistry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chemistry\/department-of-chemistry-biochemistry\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from the Chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2012\/08\/Fadavi-7.jpg\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1785 alignleft\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2012\/08\/Fadavi-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Welcome to one of the top Chemistry Program\u00a0in the country that produces the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3<sup>rd<\/sup> in Bachelor\u2019s, 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in Master\u2019s, and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in Doctoral degrees in Physical Sciences (mainly chemistry) awarded to African Americans in the country (Diverse Issues in Higher Education). <\/span>The Program, with its 20 outstanding and diverse faculty members, offers BS, MS, and PhD degree programs.\u00a0 The BS degree program has been certified by the American Chemical Society since 1973 with several career options: biomedical science, environmental science, forensic science, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy, and pre-engineering.\u00a0 Students trained through our programs receive excellent preparation for graduate and professional schools and careers in industry, academia, and government.\u00a0 In fact, 72% BS\/MS graduates went on to graduate or professional schools within one year of graduation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">We strive to build the best PhD program in the country that fosters a culture and environment conducive for underrepresented minorities.\u00a0 We stress challenging curricula, nurturing environment, trainings in chemistry teaching, research and research publication, and proposal writing to prepare doctoral graduates to be university professors.
