{"id":3770,"date":"2021-05-20T14:31:36","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T14:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chs\/?p=3770"},"modified":"2022-02-22T18:34:22","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T18:34:22","slug":"nsslha-chapter-at-jackson-state-university-awarded-2021-silver-chapter-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/chs\/2021\/05\/20\/nsslha-chapter-at-jackson-state-university-awarded-2021-silver-chapter-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"NSSLHA Chapter at Jackson State University awarded 2021 silver chapter honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Jackson, MS; May 14, 2021<\/i>\u2014The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (National NSSLHA) has awarded the NSSLHA Chapter at JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY with 2021 Silver Chapter Honors.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Efforts made by the NSSLHA Chapter at JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY helped National NSSLHA:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Increase awareness of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) on more than 135 local college campuses and communities across the country\u2014primarily through virtual platforms<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Increase advocacy efforts by sending more than 9,500 letters to state and federal legislators<\/li>\n<li>Provide scholarships to students in CSD programs by contributing more than $24,000 to the ASHFoundation\u2019s NSSLHA Scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Support CSD-related organizations by donating more than $64,000 and approximately 20,000 hours of chapter members\u2019 time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201c<i>I am extremely proud of the NSSLHA JSU Undergrad chapter this year. They were committed to service, advocacy, and increasing awareness of communicative disorders within and around their community, despite the pandemic\u201d.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>-Dr. Whitney D. To encourage and promote professional interest among college and university students in the study of human communication sciences and disorders.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. To provide community service locally and nationally<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About National NSSLHA<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is the only national student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders (CSD) recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
