The educational objectives of the Computer Science undergraduate program at Jackson State University are to graduate students with:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. An understanding of and the ability to apply the core principles and theories of Computer Science<\/li>\n
  2. The motivation and preparation to engage in life-long learning, including entering graduate programs in Computer Science and related fields<\/li>\n
  3. The professional skills needed for employment, while being able to adapt to rapidly changing technology<\/li>\n
  4. An understanding of the ethical responsibilities of a computer professional and the social impact of computing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Student Outcomes<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Each student who graduates from the Undergraduate program in Computer Science will be able to:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline<\/li>\n
    2. Analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution<\/li>\n
    3. Design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs<\/li>\n
    4. Function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal<\/li>\n
    5. Understand professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities<\/li>\n
    6. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences<\/li>\n
    7. Analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society<\/li>\n
    8. Recognize the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development<\/li>\n
    9. Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice<\/li>\n
    10. Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices<\/li>\n
