{"id":2259,"date":"2015-01-20T07:53:06","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T07:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/education\/?page_id=2259"},"modified":"2015-01-20T08:15:40","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T08:15:40","slug":"spotlight-12","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/education\/spotlight-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"entry-title\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2252 alignleft\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/education\/files\/2015\/01\/community-garden.jpg\" title=\"\" width=\"275\" \/>JSU Community Garden Project: &nbsp;Lowes Grant<br \/>\n<\/h1>\n<p>\n\tJackson State University is planning to create a community learning garden and outdoor classroom to teach Blackburn Middle School students how food is grown. &nbsp;Supported by&nbsp;a collaborative&nbsp;partnership between Blackburn, the College of Education and Human Development and Center for University-based Development, the project has already received a $5000 grant to get the project started.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Lowe&rsquo;s Toolbox for Education grant will fund the first phase of the project, said Kyle W. Bray, director, Grants\/Special Projects and Community Service, College of Education and Human Development. &nbsp;Lowe&rsquo;s will also be providing in-kind supplies and volunteers, &nbsp;The land is not on Blackburn property, but about 50 yards away, &nbsp;Jackson State donated two open, unused former residential parcels totaling about one-half acre. &nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPlans call for 16 raised beds of produce and fruit trees.
