Go to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\/\">www.fafsa.ed.gov<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your FSA ID\u00a0will allow you to electronically complete the FAFSA application online, sign it, make\u00a0corrections and access other federal\/state aid websites regarding your financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">II.\u00a0 After completing your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The SAR contains the information reported on your FAFSA and usually includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EFC determines your family&#8217;s financial strength and your eligibility for federal student aid.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Review your SAR information and make any corrections or changes if required.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The school(s) listed on your FAFSA will receive your SAR data electronically.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If additional information is required to process your file, you will receive a Missing Requirements Letter from the Financial Aid Office at JSU.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>You should respond to all\u00a0requests quickly.\u00a0<\/strong>Failure to respond in a timely manner may reduce the amount of need-based aid you may be eligible to receive.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">When all information is received by the Financial Aid Office, it is\u00a0reviewed and financial aid award(s) are determined, if eligible.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">First time students should\u00a0receive their\u00a0Award Notification\u00a0which\u00a0includes the type of financial aid awarded, the amount and instructions for accepting and\/or declining award(s) in April each year. Continuing students can view their award\u00a0notices on their\u00a0JSU PAWS accounts\u00a0each year after June 1<sup>st.<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; margin-left: 40px;\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Applications received after JSU&#8217;s April 15<sup>th<\/sup> priority deadline date may not be considered for campus based programs like Federal Work Study (FWS) and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) because these funds are limited.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>III<\/strong>. <strong>How to Apply for State Programs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grants (MTAG) and Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grants (MESG) are awarded by the Mississippi State Office of Student Financial Aid. To apply, visit <em><a href=\"http:\/\/riseupms.com\/stateaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RiseUPMS.com\/stateaid.<\/a><\/em> The deadline date for applications is September 15 of each year. However, it is recommended that you apply prior to June 1.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>IV. \u00a0Special Circumstances Request Process<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sometimes a family will find that the information required on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) does not reflect their current circumstances and their ability to contribute to the student&#8217;s cost of education due to rare and\u00a0unexpected circumstances. \u00a0When this happens, a student may choose to submit a request for Special Circumstance(s) to the Financial Aid Office to explain\u00a0their current circumstances with a\u00a0request\u00a0that their situation be reviewed under those circumstances. \u00a0Circumstances considered, but not limited to are: (a) Income Reduction; (b) Unusual high medical and\/or dental expenses NOT covered by insurance; (c) Natural Disaster; and (d) Other unusual expenses or circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To be considered for Special Circumstances, the student must do the following<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Submit a written request to the Financial Aid Office detailing the special circumstance(s).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. \u00a0Complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/financial-aid-forms\/\">Special Circumstance Form<\/a>\u00a0located at https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/financial-aid-forms\/.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. \u00a0Provide all the requested information listed on the Special Circumstance Form.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The information submitted will be evaluated to determine if an adjustment can be made to represent a more realistic picture of the family&#8217;s ability to contribute to the cost of education. \u00a0Students \u00a0can monitor their JSU PAWS account for messages and updates regarding the decision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>V.\u00a0 Other Tips to Remember When\u00a0Applying for Financial Aid<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">You must reapply (complete\/update FAFSA)\u00a0for financial aid EACH YEAR.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Missing JSU&#8217;s priority deadline date of April 15 may limit the amount of aid you may receive.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can complete the FAFSA using <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">estimated\u00a0<\/span>income and tax figures. If <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">necessary, do this rather than missing JSU&#8217;s priority deadline.<\/span>\u00a0Be prepared to submit your prior year(s)\u00a0IRS Tax ReturnTranscript(s).\u00a0To obtain a free IRS tax return transcript, log on\u00a0to\u00a0the <em><a title=\"IRS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internal Revenue Service&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(IRS) website website at www.irs.ed.gov\u00a0or\u00a0call 1-800-908-9946. Make sure to request the \u201cIRS tax return transcript\u201d and not the \u201cIRS tax account transcript.\u201d \u00a0If you are married\u00a0and\u00a0you and your spouse filed separate tax returns, you must submit tax return transcripts for both you and your spouse.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">If <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you are a Dependent student,<\/span> you must submit a copy of your and your parent\u2019s prior year(s)\u00a0IRS tax return transcript(s)\u2014not photocopies of the income tax return. To obtain a free IRS tax return transcript, log on to\u00a0the <em><a title=\"IRS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internal Revenue Service&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(IRS) at www.irs.ed.gov or call 1-800-908-9946.
