{"id":194,"date":"2011-04-26T13:45:17","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T19:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/?page_id=194"},"modified":"2013-03-22T21:10:20","modified_gmt":"2013-03-22T21:10:20","slug":"code-of-conduct","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/resources\/code-of-conduct\/","title":{"rendered":"Code of Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Financial Aid Office<br \/>\nStudent Loan Code of Conduct<\/p>\n<p>The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 requires institutions of higher education to develop and enforce a code of conduct that prohibits conflicts of interest for financial aid personnel.\u00a0 In compliance with this requirement, <strong>Jackson State University has created the following code of conduct based on the HEOA of 2008<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Other University employees, officers and agents with responsibilities in respect to educational loans must also comply with this policy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Code of Conduct<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Conflict of Interest<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 No Jackson State University employee shall have a conflict of interest with respect to any education loan or other student financial aid for which the employee has responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ban on Revenue-Sharing Arrangements<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Jackson State University shall not enter into any revenue-sharing arrangement with any lender or other vendor working with the Financial Aid Office.\u00a0 The University shall not accept any fee or other material benefit in exchange for recommending a lender to its students.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Gift Ban<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 No Jackson State University officer or employee with financial aid responsibilities shall solicit or accept a gift (e.g., a gift of services, transportation, lodging or meals, provided by purchase of a ticket, payment in advance or reimbursement) having a monetary value of more than a nominal amount from lenders, guarantors or servicers of education loans.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Contracting Arrangements Prohibited<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; No Jackson State University officer or employee with financial aid responsibilities shall accept from any lender or lender affiliate any payment or other financial benefit as compensation for any type of consulting arrangement or other contract to provide services to a lender.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Interaction with Borrowers<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Jackson State University shall not automatically assign a particular lender to any borrower and shall not refuse to certify or delay certification of any loan based on the lender or guarantee agency selected.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Prohibition on Offers of Funds for Private Loans<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Jackson State University shall not request or accept from any lender an offer of funds to be used for private education loans in exchange for the University providing the lender with a specified number or volume of loans made or in exchange for placement on a preferred lender list.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Co-branding<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Jackson State University prohibits any private educational lender from using the University\u2019s name, emblem and logo as well as any words, pictures or symbols associated with the University to imply endorsement of private education loans by that lender.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ban on Staffing Assistance<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Jackson State University shall not request or accept from any lender any assistance with call center staffing or financial aid office staffing.\u00a0 Lenders, however, may provide professional development training to financial aid administrators, educational advising materials to borrowers or assistance in state or federally-declared natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Advisory Board Assistance<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 All Jackson State University employees with financial aid responsibilities shall be prohibited from receiving anything of value from a lender or guarantor in return for service on its advisory board.\u00a0 Reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred in connection with such service, however, is permitted.<\/p>\n<p>For the following purposes, it is <strong>not<\/strong> considered a \u201cgift\u201d to the school for a lender or guarantor to provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standard materials, activities or programs on issues related to a loan, default aversion, default prevention or financial literacy (i.e. brochures, workshops, training)<\/li>\n<li>Food, refreshments, training or informational material that is designed to improve the service of a lender, guarantor, or servicer if the training contributes to the professional development of the school staff<\/li>\n<li>Favorable terms, conditions and borrower benefits, as long as these are provided to all students at the school<\/li>\n<li>Entrance and exit counseling services, as long as the school controls the counseling and does not promote the products and services of the lender<\/li>\n<li>Philanthropic contributions not tied to loan volume<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Financial Aid Office Student Loan Code of Conduct The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 requires institutions of higher education to develop and enforce a code of conduct that prohibits conflicts of interest for financial aid personnel.\u00a0 In compliance with this requirement, Jackson State University has created the following code of conduct based on [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":15,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0},"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/194"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=194"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/194\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":554,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/194\/revisions\/554"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/15"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/financialaid\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=194"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
