Six hours of course instruction through two classes, Intro to Computer Graphics and Sound Design, are arranged to provide students with specific technical training while infusing the culture of Brazil. Program participants will learn how to produce raster-based graphics and gain a basic understanding of sound design to produce projects with industry standard software. Moreover, the classroom environment is extended into the Brazilian community to provide a unique research laboratory that significantly enhances project innovation based on cultural relevance. Upon completion of the program, students will have a body of work that represents their global experience and newly acquired technical knowledge. Additionally, students experiential learning will provide a new global perspective through interacting with the people of various communities, acquiring new historical knowledge and delving into the rich cultures of Salvador da Bahia, Rio de Janeiro and surrounding areas through guest lecturers, excursions and daily activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About The Cities<\/strong><br \/>\nSalvador da Bahia, located on the Atlantic Coast in northeastern Brazil and the first colonial capital of Brazil, has over three million inhabitants. Due to the strong slave presence during the Colonial period, Salvador has a strong African influence that spans religious and spiritual practices, cuisine, music, martial-arts traditions and ethnic dynamics which have influenced<\/p>\n<p>Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil, and the third largest metropolitan area in South America. Nicknamed the Cidade Maravilhosa or \u201cMarvelous City\u201d thanks to the dynamic urban vibe, expansive beaches, abutting rainforest, and sprawling favelas, it has a specific history unknown to many, a rich history steeped in African culture. Rio is the most visited city in the southern hemisphere and known for its natural setting, Carnival celebrations, samba, Bossa Nova and renowned beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Overview<\/strong><br \/>\nPassport to the World takes place during the first summer term at JSU. Two weeks are spent on campus and two weeks abroad. A faculty member from Jackson State University will lead the program, including providing all instruction.<\/p>\n<p>During the program, students will enhance their classroom lectures with co-curricular and cultural site visits such as: tours, historical in nature, of several areas of the cities, Afro-Brazilian historical sites, trips to the iconic venues, visits to advertising \/ design agency and a design school \/ department, cultural samba shows, favela visits, community service activities, museums and other amazing activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Cost<\/strong><br \/>\n$1038 (Does not include tuition)<br \/>\nAccommodations<br \/>\nAll meals (in country)<br \/>\nTransportation (in country)<br \/>\nExcursions, admission fees, cultural experiences, etc.<br \/>\niNext Comprehensive Travel Insurance<br \/>\n24\/7 Emergency Assistance<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuition: 6 credit hours<\/strong><br \/>\nUndergraduate: $1788 ($298.00 per hour)<br \/>\nGraduate:$2,382 ($397.00 per hour)<br \/>\nPassport, Visa and photos for both: $355<\/p>\n<p>* Financial aid can be applied to the program cost.
