Contact 601-979-1606 for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Daytime Courses:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>RWA 301: Reading and Writing Application<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">8 &#8211; 8:50 am\u00a0 M-F<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">This course develops ESL students\u2019 vocabulary, both productive and receptive, and reading comprehension skills, and skills in writing different texts at the intermediate level. This course will specifically focus on developing reading and writing skills through contemporary, real-world topics relevant to the students\u2019 lives. Productive vocabulary is developed through guided and independent activities which allow students to categorize new vocabulary and reflect how the mind organizes new words. Receptive vocabulary is introduced primarily in readings specifically selected for mastery of academic and real world text. The writing skills are developed through prompts selected to reinforce the vocabulary and grammar. This course helps students to pick up words, phrases, expressions, and idioms from reading, by using skimming and scanning skills, a variety of text types for different purposes. Proficiency of these skills is then demonstrated through specific writing tasks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>EC 304: English Communications<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">10 &#8211; 10:50 am\u00a0 M-F<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">This course will focus on further developing conversational management strategies. Specifically, various topics in listening and speaking will be addressed. Students will learn how to listen for information through grammar development exercises. A strong focus will be given on producing speech utilizing various basic idiomatic expressions. Special attention will be given to ways to summarize main ideas and news reports, introduce yourself and others, interview, and give opinions. The result will be the production of\u00a0 comprehensible and natural speech on a variety of topics at the intermediate level. Students will listen to and respond to a variety of content including cultures, home life, nutrition and the environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>EFW 305: Effective Writing 305<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">11-11:50 am M-F<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">This course offers the student more detailed skills in grammar and writing through writing prompts for various academic topics. Students will learn how to plan, organize, draft, and revise 3-5 paragraph essays for coherence through in class and out of class assignments, constructive editing from the instructor, and peer review from classmates.\u00a0 A strong focus on vocabulary will be given throughout the course, to enable students to gain deeper core knowledge on academic topics such as sociology, nutrition, literature and meteorology. Students will also master pertinent grammar such as sentence structure, word order, tenses, and punctuation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Evening Courses:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>G 307: English Grammar 307<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">6-6:50 pm M-F<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">This course will develop listening fluency and comprehension at the intermediate level through the use of various authentic English contexts. As well, it will focus on developing vocabulary and colloquial speech as a way to strengthen listening skills in different academic and social settings. Primary emphasis will be on discerning spoken communication fluency, grammar precision, vocabulary usage, and pronunciation. Listening topics will include advertisements, podcasts, interviews, and oral histories. Stimulated discussion with thought-provoking topics and authentic reading texts and aural pieces will encourage the student to communicate across a variety of instructional modules using materials that are applicable to the real world.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spring 2025 ESL Courses will be posted soon.
