{"id":649,"date":"2012-08-08T23:55:05","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T23:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/gradadmissions\/?page_id=649"},"modified":"2022-06-14T20:51:42","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T20:51:42","slug":"graduate-faculty","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/graduate-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Faculty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Graduate Faculty consists of the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the academic deans and those members of the general faculty who, by their scholarly attainments in their own fields of specialization have demonstrated their competence to offer graduate instruction.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose and functions of the Graduate Faculty, within limits established by the Board of Trustees, are to offer graduate courses, supervise thesis and dissertation research, and advise the Graduate Council and the Graduate Dean on the establishment of policies relating to graduate education.<\/p>\n<p>The major advisory functions of the Graduate Faculty are carried on by committees appointed by the Graduate Dean. Appointment to the Graduate Faculty is made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs upon the recommendation of the Graduate Council and\u00a0with the approval of the Graduate Dean..<\/p>\n<h3>A. \u00a0Graduate Faculty<\/h3>\n<p>Graduate Faculty may teach graduate courses, supervise and serve on supervisory committees for students working toward post-baccalaureate degrees, vote on nominations for the Graduate Council and serve on the Graduate Council. Full members of the graduate faculty possess terminal degrees in their area of instruction or have achieved equivalent recognition through their research achievements. \u00a0They are experienced professors, having at least <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">five<\/span>\u00a0years&#8217; experience in higher education, including some graduate teaching, and having directed graduate student research and carried on their own research.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0B. \u00a0Associate Graduate Faculty<\/h3>\n<p>Associate Graduate Faculty may teach graduate courses, supervise masters&#8217; theses, supervise doctoral dissertations, serve on supervisory committees for students working toward post-baccalaureate degrees, and vote on nominations for the Graduate Council. Associate members of the graduate faculty have completed their terminal degrees and demonstrated expertise in teaching and research in the area of instruction. \u00a0They are \u00a0professors with at least\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">three<\/span>\u00a0years&#8217; experience in higher education, including some graduate teaching, and having directed graduate student research and carried on their own research.<\/p>\n<h3>C. \u00a0Assistant Graduate Faculty<\/h3>\n<p>Assistant Graduate Faculty may teach graduate courses, supervise masters&#8217; theses, co-supervise doctoral dissertations, serve on supervisory committees for students working toward post-baccalaureate degrees, and vote on nominations for the Graduate Council.
