Once&nbsp;all required application material is&nbsp;received&nbsp;by the graduate admissions office, the department reviews it and submits a decision. Once the&nbsp;Division&nbsp;of Graduate Studies&nbsp;receives&nbsp;a recommendation from the graduate faculty in Department of History and the&nbsp;Dean&nbsp;of the&nbsp;College&nbsp;of Liberal Arts, applicants are notified by the Graduate Dean of the decision to admit, conditionally admit, or deny. For more information please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/masters-admissions\/\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large\">Graduate School Admission requirements:<\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t1. &nbsp;An application for admission to Graduate School &ndash; <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.jsums.edu\/gadmappl\/grad_form.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to apply<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t2. &nbsp;All applicants must submit two official copies of transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges and universities attended.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t3. &nbsp;All applicants must submit immunization records.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t4. &nbsp;The Graduate School requires a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 Scale) at the undergraduate level or a Masters&rsquo; degree (See program requirements).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t5. &nbsp;Out-of-state and International applicants must submit a $25.00 application fee (money orders only).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Regular status<\/strong>&nbsp;is awarded to students who have minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 Scale) at the undergraduate level.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Conditional status<\/strong>&nbsp;may be assigned to students who possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 &ndash; 2.99 at the undergraduate level (on 4.0 scale). Students must earn regular status in the first semester of full-time enrollment, or in the first twelve hours of part-time enrollment by acquiring a GPA of 3.00 in the first 12 hours of graduate work.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large\">Department Admission Requirements:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t1. Applicants must satisfy all admission requirements of the Division of Graduate Studies.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t2. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for admittance to the History Department. &nbsp;Applicants with a GPA of less than 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t3. Applicants must submit three (3) letters of recommendation.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t4. All Applicants must submit a 1 &frac12; &#8211; 2 page Statement of Purpose describing why they are seeking a graduate degree in history, their research and writing experience, and what they desire to study.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t5. Applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to submit a writing sample (an academic paper written for an undergraduate course or publication) to strengthen their application but are not required to do so. &nbsp;Applicants with a GPA of less than 3.0 are required to submit a writing sample.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:18.0pt\">\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large\">Transfer of Credits:<\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tUp to nine semester hours of credits in significantly&nbsp;related courses may be accepted toward the M.A.&nbsp;Degree in History. &nbsp;The earned credits must be from a&nbsp;graduate history program at an accredited institution of&nbsp;higher learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Graduate Admission is granted&nbsp;jointly&nbsp;by the&nbsp;Division&nbsp;of Graduate&nbsp;Studies and the&nbsp;Department&nbsp;of History and Philosophy.
