Computing and Communications

Welcome Back All Returning Students and Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to our new Freshman Class! We want to make sure that you are connected and able to communicate successfully using the services that we proudly offer here at Jackson State University.

For your information, all data hook ups for your PCs as well as Telephone Service connections are included in your Housing package. You just simply plug-in once you are in your assigned dorm room. If for any reason you are having difficulty with a connection for your PC or your telephone, please contact the Community Director.

Your telephone service works with an Analog Phone only. Just bring it and plug it in. If for any reason you are having difficulty with your phone, please contact the Community Director.

Getting Connected: Internet

If for any reason you are having difficulty with a connection for your PC, please contact the Community Director.

What you will need:

Student Computers should meet minimum recommended specifications.

  • Processor (CPU 1Ghz)
  • Memory (RAM 128MB)
  • Hard Drive 10GB
  • Network card (NIC) and RJ-45 cable
  • Operating system Windows 2000 or higher
  • Up-To-Date anti-virus software (ask for it at the Front Desk)

Students are responsible for maintenance, repair, and service of their computers. JSU Support Service Personnel will not work on student computers.

Students are responsible for the purchase and installations of software on their computers. JSU Support Service Personnel will not install software.

JSU Support Service Personnel will provide network connections for student computers. JSU will guarantee connectivity to each room.

We do not supply any additional equipment and/or supplies you may need to use your PC. You will need a network card and a network cable to utilize your PC in the dorm room. Please visit the nearest office supply store to purchase this equipment.
