Washington Rediscovered<\/em>, <em>Race and Gender in Nonprofit Leadership<\/em>, <em>The Morehouse Mystique<\/em>, and <em>A Guide to Fundraising at Historically Black Colleges and Universities<\/em>.\u00a0 Eight of Dr. Gasman\u2019s books have won research awards.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gasman&#8217;s articles have been published in the <em>American Education Research Journal<\/em>, <em>Educational Researcher<\/em>, <em>Teachers College Record<\/em>, the <em>Journal of Higher Education<\/em>, the <em>Journal of Negro Education<\/em>, <em>Research in Higher Education<\/em>, the <em>Journal of College Student Development<\/em>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>She is a regular contributor to the <em>Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em>, <em>Diverse Issues<\/em>, the <em>Huffington Post<\/em>, the <em>New York Times<\/em>, and <em>Academe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gasman is the co-principal investigator on two major grant-funded research projects related to Minority Serving institutions (MSIs).\u00a0 One project (with Clif Conrad) is focused on student success at MSIs and funded by Lumina Foundation, Kresge Foundation, and USA Funds.\u00a0 The other project (with Yvonne Patterson) is focused on increasing faculty of color at MSIs in the sciences and is sponsored by NIH.<\/p>\n<p>Her research has been featured in the <em>New York Times<\/em>, the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, <em>Time<\/em>, <em>Newsweek<\/em>, <em>USNEWS<\/em>, CNN, and on National Public Radio.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gasman consults for many organizations, including Lumina Foundation, Kresge Foundation, Education Sector, USA Funds, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Success for Kids, Paul Quinn College, and Philander Smith College.\u00a0 She is the Vice President of the American Education Research Association.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gasman received the Penn Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the Association for the Study of Higher Education\u2019s Early Career Award in 2006.\u00a0\u00a0 In 2010, she was awarded the Ozell Sutton Medallion for Justice by Philander Smith College and named a member of the board of trustees at St. Augustine College.\u00a0 This May 2012, she will receive an honorary degree from Paul Quinn College.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marybeth Gasman is a Professor of Higher Education in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.\u00a0 She holds secondary appointments in history, Africana Studies, and the School of Social Policy and Practice.
