The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects<\/strong><\/a> mission is to be a revelatory, unflickering light for Black girls and young women in the southeastern United States through focused programming and by creating safe spaces for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

POWER IS SPACE AND TIME.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

My personal mission is to help build power for any person who\u2019s connected to The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects<\/a>. This power isn\u2019t necessarily the kind Huey P. Newton said defines phenomena and makes it act in a desired manner. It\u2019s more intimate than that. I believe the genesis and fulfillment of power is space and time. I cannot be convinced otherwise. I\u2019m talking space, literal space. Space to express physically with dance, verbally with a loud voice, or without being told that one\u2019s very being is offensive. And that coupled with time. Time to play, mourn and rejoice, time to figure things out, screw up and time to do nothing without being called lazy. Black girls who have access to space and time have power. Powerful Black girls are autonomous, self-actualized, liberated Black girls. And perhaps those Black girls will define phenomena and make it act in a desired manner \u2026 if they so choose.<\/p>\n
