\"\"<\/a>The Margaret Walker Center is pleased to announce the schedule of events for the 15th\u00a0<\/sup>Annual Creative\u00a0<\/em>Arts & Scholarly Engagement (CASE) Festival<\/strong>, featuring writer and scholar Kiese Laymon, scheduled to be held virtually on Friday and Saturday,\u00a0April 9 & 10<\/strong>,\u00a02021<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Taking a cue from Laymon’s work, the theme for the 2021 CASE is \u201c<\/strong>Bearing\/Baring the Weight\/Wait: The Struggle for Self-Actualization & Change in Mississippi.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The CASE Festival will open on Friday with a plenary discussion on the recently released for the first time full-edition of Richard Wright’s The Man Who Lived Underground <\/em>with Laymon, Kevin Powell, C. Liegh McInnis, Charlie Braxton, Jerry Ward, and Julia Wright, daughter of Richard Wright. There will also be a musical reception, led by Amanda Furdge-Shelby, featuring spoken word artists.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Festival will feature Kiese Laymon’s keynote, <\/span>student concurrent sessions<\/span><\/a>, a closing conversation with Prof. C. Liegh McInnis and Dr. Anita DeRouen, and the presentation of the $1,000 Margaret Walker Award as well as the $500 Doris Derby Visual Arts and Social Justice Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

All events are free and open to the public.<\/span> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
