{"id":1740,"date":"2022-02-02T17:49:25","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T17:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/?page_id=1740"},"modified":"2022-12-03T06:44:41","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T06:44:41","slug":"jackson-state-university-course-based-undergraduate-research-experience-cure-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/jackson-state-university-course-based-undergraduate-research-experience-cure-program\/","title":{"rendered":"JSU CURE Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/files\/2022\/02\/cure1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/files\/2022\/02\/cure1-300x109.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/files\/2022\/02\/cure1-300x109.png 300w, https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/files\/2022\/02\/cure1.png 694w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>JSU Biology students have an opportunity to apply for a research position\u00a0with JSUCURE,\u00a0Jackson State University Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience Program.\u00a0 This is an undergraduate program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) designed to enhance the undergraduate STEM education offerings in the JSU Department of Biology, and in turn, better equip and prepare our underrepresented students for entrance into STEM-related professional careers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Components<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JSU-CURE Scholars have the opportunity to participate in enrichment and professional development activities.\u00a0 These activities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Enhancement<\/li>\n<li>Bioinformatics Course<\/li>\n<li>Intramural and Extramural Mentored Research Training<\/li>\n<li>Participation in at least one scientific meeting (Oral or Poster Presentation)<\/li>\n<li>GRE Preparatory Course<\/li>\n<li>Participation in workshops and seminars<\/li>\n<li>Final JSU-CURE Symposium<\/li>\n<li>Social outings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/math2\/files\/2022\/02\/JSU-CURE-Program-Brochure-103021-FINAL.pdf\"><strong>Program Benefits (Click for Brochure)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct hands-on team-based research<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with faculty mentor on a research project<\/li>\n<li>Analyze and present research findings<\/li>\n<li>Reinforce classroom learning<\/li>\n<li>Receive guidance on career options<\/li>\n<li>Build academic and professional networks<\/li>\n<li>Stipend<\/li>\n<li>Travel to national conferences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For consideration, eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a US Citizen or permanent resident<\/li>\n<li>Be a JSU Biology major<\/li>\n<li>Be rising sophomores and\/or juniors<\/li>\n<li>Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 GPA Scale) with all first year science courses completed (BIO 111\/BIOL 111, BIO 112\/BIOL 112)<\/li>\n<li>Committed to entire program (both the academic year and mentored research during the summer)<\/li>\n<li>Submit one letter of recommendation<\/li>\n<li>Previous research experience not required<\/li>\n<li>Complete an online application and submit all supporting documentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>APPLY TO JSU-CURE (Application deadline: November 1 \u2013 until filled)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Students will apply for JSU-CURE online. {<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/3DLaeESE2hKYDpUj8\"><strong><em>Application<\/em><\/strong><\/a>}<\/li>\n<li>Students must have one letter of recommendation submitted on their behalf.
