{"id":8210,"date":"2020-12-14T17:48:32","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T17:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/?page_id=8210"},"modified":"2021-06-24T19:50:19","modified_gmt":"2021-06-24T19:50:19","slug":"online-vs-hybrid","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/online-vs-hybrid\/","title":{"rendered":"Online vs Hybrid"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Distinguishing Course Delivery Methods<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>What&#8217;s the difference between online, hybrid, and Canvas enhanced courses?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 18px;\"><strong>Online courses<\/strong> use a computer and the Internet to access course materials within Canvas and include the use of email, threaded discussions, simulations, multimedia, chat rooms, and more.\u00a0 In most cases, online courses do not\u00a0 have a physical meeting time or place.\u00a0 However, some courses may require chat sessions which require that students log into Canvas simultaneously.\u00a0 Additionally, some courses may require proctored examinations which require students to authenticate their identity face to face.\u00a0 Online courses include sections 80-89 and 70-72. Online degree program courses include sections 100-109 (<strong>Note: <\/strong>Only students that are admitted to\u00a0an online degree program may register for\u00a0section 100 level courses).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 18px;\"><strong>Hybrid courses<\/strong> use a combination of face-to-face instruction and online activities in Canvas or a publisher website.\u00a0 The syllabi will specify meeting dates and online activities.\u00a0 Hybrid courses must meet face-to-face at least 51 percent of the scheduled class sessions.\u00a0 Hybrid courses include sections 60-69 and 79.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 18px;\"><strong>Canvas enhanced courses<\/strong> are face-to-face courses.\u00a0 The instructor uses Canvas to post your course syllabus and to email students.\u00a0 There is only a minimal amount of online activities and the course meets in the traditional classroom all semester.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Distinguishing Course Delivery Methods What&#8217;s the difference between online, hybrid, and Canvas enhanced courses?
