The approval process requires that instructors successfully complete the following three foundational training courses (Catalog of Workshops):<\/p>\n<h4>Required Foundational Courses<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>DL 501 &#8211;<span style=\"color: #009bde;\"> <a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL501RE071513New06022014.pdf\">Introduction to Canvas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 502 &#8211;<span style=\"color: #009bde;\"> <a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL5021.pdf\">Designing and Creating Courses in Canvas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 503 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL5031.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Best Practices for Teaching Online<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Training is usually blended, where faculty are in a traditional classroom but receiving online instruction. This training method allows the trainer to provide hands-on assistance and the instructor to practice using the online system.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty knowledge and skills are assessed during the training or immediately following. Faculty member are certified as \u201cproficient\u201d or \u201cnot proficient\u201d after the training is completed.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Continuing Education in Distance Learning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Faculty teaching online courses will have knowledge and skills of contemporary technologies and pedagogical techniques by participating in individual and group professional development activities.<\/p>\n<p>After successfully completing the foundational trainings, faculty are encouraged to enhance their proficiency in the use of Canvas tools, in order to enhance instruction and content delivery. The following courses are provided to enhance online teaching proficiency:<\/p>\n<h4>Canvas Tools for Experienced Users<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>DL 601 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/Design-Guidelines-for-Universal-Design.pdf\">Universal Design Principles<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 602 &#8211;<span style=\"color: #009bde;\"> <a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL602RE071513New06022014.pdf\">Creating Quizzes, Surveys, and Assessments\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 701 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/jsuonline\/files\/2014\/08\/DL7011.pdf\">Using Web Conference Tools<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 702 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/jsuonline\/files\/2014\/08\/DL7021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mastering Canvas&#8217; Gradebook<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 703 &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL7031.pdf\">Using Blogs, Wikis, and Journals in Canas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>DL 704 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/DL7041.pdf\">Using Audio and Video in Canvas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>JSUOnline<\/em> staff offers the following courses to train the faculty in the use of contemporary and emerging uses of technology:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Instructional &amp; Professional Enhancement<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>BON 101 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/BONNew06020214.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Build an Online Newspaper<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>EW20T &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/EW20TNew06022014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embedding Web 2.0 Tools in Canvas<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>GD 101 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #009bde;\"><a style=\"color: #009bde;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/new-jsuonline\/files\/2020\/12\/GD100RE071513New06022014.pdf\">Google Drive<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Certification<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>JSUOnline<\/em> awards two certificates: (1) A Certificate of Completion and (2) A Certification of Participation.<\/p>\n<p>A Certificate of Completion denotes \u201cproficient,\u201d while a Certificate of Participation documents the faculty member\u2019s participation in the training session.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Registration<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Registration for all workshops is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited.
