The Goals and Objectives of the Program are:

1. Expose students to the collaborative environmental nanoscience projects
2. Create an REU educational/research atmosphere
3. Train a diverse set of leaders in STEM
4. Obtain knowledge on ethics of professional service and dissemination of knowledge
5. Promote diversity among students, faculty, and staff
6. Provide opportunities for students from challenging backgrounds
7. Enhance JSU's capacity in materials science research
8. Provide opportunities for JSU-REU participants to excel in research on environmental nanoscience
9. Promote multidisciplinary research
10. Enhance student-faculty and student-student interactions
