Program in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\"><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><strong>Admission Requirement and Procedures<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"ftn1\">\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">Admission is competitive.\u00a0 Applicants must meet the following requirements for admission consideration:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">A baccalaureate degree in communicative disorders, speech-language pathology, or speech and hearing sciences from a regionally accredited college or university is required.\u00a0 If students have degrees in professions other than communicative disorders, speech-language pathology, or speech and hearing sciences, they must first complete specified prerequisite courses with a grade of B (on a 4-point scale) or better.\u00a0 (Prerequisite course taken more than 10 years before the initiation of the graduate program will not be accepted.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">\u200bPrerequisite courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Phonetics<\/li>\n<li>Anatomy and Physiology<\/li>\n<li>Speech and Hearing Science<\/li>\n<li>Language Development<\/li>\n<li>Articulation Disorders<\/li>\n<li>Language Disorders in Children<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to Audiology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">\u200bGrades in other Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology courses (e.g., Fluency, Diagnostics) will be reviewed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">Additionally, applicants must have completed the following with a grade of C or better:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One course in biological sciences, one course in physics or chemistry, and one course in statistics for a total of 9 hours; and<\/li>\n<li>Courses in behavioral and\/or social sciences for a total of 6 semester hours.<\/li>\n<li>A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) for courses completed during the junior and senior years, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale) at the undergraduate level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">Applicants who meet these requirements are encouraged to submit a full application packet for admission consideration.\u00a0 Admission is based on academic performance and related experiences, GRE scores (DI Code 7169; waived for 2026-2027), recommendation letters, and writing samples.\u00a0 <i>All application materials must be submitted by March 1 for admission consideration.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\"><b>Application Process:<\/b>\u00a0 All application materials must be submitted on or before March 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">To be considered, applicants to the M.S. program in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology must submit a complete application (and\/or Financial Aid Forms) to Jackson State University\u2019s Graduate School.\u00a0 The application can be found at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/masters-admissions\/\"><b>https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/masters-admissions\/<\/b><\/a><b>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\"><b>Application Fee:<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">Out-of-state and International applicants must submit a $25.00 application fee to the Jackson State University Graduate School with the application. Applications will not be processed without payment of the application fee. Payment can be paid online using a credit\/debit card at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/masters-admissions\/\"><b>https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/graduateschool\/masters-admissions\/<\/b><\/a>\u00a0or by money order mailed to the Division of Graduate Studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">There is no fee for in-state students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">International students must submit TOEFL scores to the Jackson State University Graduate School.\u00a0 A minimum score of 69 is required for admission to the Jackson State University Graduate School.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\"><b>Applicants are required to submit:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GRE scores (DI Code: 7169) \u2013 Requirement Waived for 2026-2027<\/li>\n<li>personal statement\/essay that includes the applicant\u2019s\n<ul>\n<li>reasons for pursuing graduate student in speech-language pathology;<\/li>\n<li>reasons for pursuing graduate study specifically at\u00a0Jackson State University;<\/li>\n<li>professional goals;<\/li>\n<li>strengths that will contribute to success in the graduate program at Jackson State University;<\/li>\n<li>limitations, if any, that may need to be addressed in order to successfully pursue graduate studies in speech-language pathology; and<\/li>\n<li>past work, research or volunteer experiences, if any, that have helped to prepare the applicant for graduate studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>three letters of recommendation from speech-language pathology instructors\u00a0and\/or clinical supervisors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\"><strong>Immunizations Requirement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">All students admitted to Jackson State University are required to submit proof of having received two immunization shots for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) in order to complete registration for classes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">You must submit a copy of the required immunization record to the University Health Center prior to registration for courses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.3; text-transform: none; color: #002147;\">Students who have been admitted but do not submit the required immunization verification will be unable to complete registration for classes in the school\u2019s computer enrollment system.
