Students may declare social work as a major upon entry to the University. However, at this stage, students are considered pre-majors. A student is a pre-major until he\/she is formally admitted into the B.S.W. Program.<\/p>\n

To be eligible for admission to the Program, students must have:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. completed any developmental courses required by the University;<\/li>\n
  2. completed English 104 and 105 with a minimum grade of \u201cC\u201d in each course;<\/li>\n
  3. completed SW 200: Introduction to Social Work and SW 210: Social Work Values and Ethics, with a minimum grade of \u201cC\u201d in each course;<\/li>\n
  4. removed any Incomplete grades (\u201cI\u201d) in courses;<\/li>\n
  5. achieved a total institutional cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 at the time of application to the Program; and<\/li>\n
  6. achieved an overall social work GPA of at least 2.5.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The admissions application includes:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. an application checklist;<\/li>\n
    2. the application form;<\/li>\n
    3. a personal statement; and<\/li>\n
    4. a current copy of the transcript that includes all credits transferred from other institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Under normal circumstances, the admissions process is completed during the second semester of the sophomore year or during the first semester of the junior year.<\/p>\n

      In addition to completing the application, applicants are required to participate in\u00a0a personal interview with the B.S.W. Program Admissions Committee. In this interview, students discuss their interest in social work and their understanding of the values and ethics of the profession.<\/p>\n

      The admissions committee also reviews personal statements and transcripts to ensure that all criteria\u00a0have been met for admission to the BSW Program. Students are notified in writing about their admissions status. Before students\u00a0are allowed to enroll in SW 385: Social Work Practice I and subsequent social work practice courses, they must be fully admitted as social work majors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
