The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor&#039;s degree; and low-income, first-generation military veterans who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAll JSU Upward Bound projects MUST provide instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language. Other services include:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tInstruction in reading, writing, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success in education beyond high school\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAcademic, financial, or personal counseling\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tExposure to academic programs and cultural events\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tTutorial services\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tMentoring programs\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tInformation on postsecondary education opportunities\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAssistance in completing college entrance and financial aid applications\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tAssistance in preparing for college entrance exams\n\t<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tWork study positions to expose participants to careers requiring a postsecondary degree\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance.
