{"id":126,"date":"2015-03-11T17:11:22","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T17:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/title3\/?p=126"},"modified":"2021-01-13T03:22:09","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T03:22:09","slug":"spring-break-offers-opportunities-for-service-by-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jsums.edu\/title3\/2015\/03\/11\/spring-break-offers-opportunities-for-service-by-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Break Offers Opportunities for Service by Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While many Jackson State University students were partying or relaxing over spring break this week, a group of 28 students went to Atlanta to help the homeless, elders, the sick and children.<\/p>\n<p>The group left JSU Sunday and are expected to return to campus around 3:30 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s is part of the Alternative Break Program, said Eltease Moore, JSU Community Service coordinator, overseeing the trip. The program each year allows students the opportunity to do something positive, she said.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, for example, the students broke up into three groups.<\/p>\n<p>One group went to help out at Project Open Hands, providing assistance to elderly in nursing care and the terminally ill. From 9 a.m. to noon, Moore said, the students \u201chelped prepare meals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second group went to Sheltering Arms \u2014 a youth day care center serving ages infant to pre-kindergarten.
