MPHA congratulates Joyce Buckner-Brown, PhD, MHS, RRT for her recent appointment to the APHA Action Board representing the Council of Affiliates. She is a member of the MPHA Legislative and Policy Committee.

APHA’s Action Board helps coordinate the association’s grassroots advocacy activities and encourages participation in advocacy initiatives. Members of the Action Board serve for a three-year term and help engage the units they represent to take action on APHA’s advocacy priorities.

Dr. Buckner-Brown is currently the Chair/Professor of the Department of Health Policy & Management in the College of Health Sciences – an Accredited School of Public Health at Jackson State University. From 2008-2016, Dr. Buckner-Brown was a health scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Buckner-Brown has served in numerous capacities on community and national action boards. She has published widely on racial/ethnic health disparities. She is regarded by her peers as a catalyst for change, and a team player who gets things done through strategic thinking and planning.
