The educational objectives of the Computer Science undergraduate program at Jackson State University are to graduate students with:

1. An understanding of and the ability to apply the core principles and theories of Computer Science
2. The motivation and preparation to engage in life-long learning, including entering graduate programs in Computer Science and related fields
3. The professional skills needed for employment, while being able to adapt to rapidly changing technology
4. An understanding of the ethical responsibilities of a computer professional and the social impact of computing.

Student Outcomes

Each student who graduates from the Undergraduate program in Computer Science will be able to:

1. Apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline
2. Analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution
3. Design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs
4. Function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal
5. Understand professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities
6. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences
7. Analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society
8. Recognize the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development
9. Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice
10. Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices
11. Apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity.
