Ying Liu

Span of responsibility: Dr. Ying Liu’s current job major responsibilities include teaching Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Grammar, and TOEFL preparation courses to pre-academic internationals and local adult language-honing learners, and providing linguistic and cross-cultural intensive refinement training to international scholars and professionals. Her major service assignments cover directing students’ engagement in cultural events and activities, international advancement projects, community outreach services, and field-learning programs; and providing English-Chinese translation/interpretation for notary services, human services, legal services, and economic development services.
Select Accomplishments:Dr. Ying Liu received higher education from a number of universities in China, Singapore, and the U.S.A., holding a B.A. (equivalent) of English Language and Literature (China), an M.A. (equivalent) of Translation Theory and Second Language Teaching (China), a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Singapore), an M.S. of Early Childhood Education (U.S.A.) and a Ph.D. of Urban Higher Education (U.S.A.). Her specialized disciplinary areas include English Language & Literature, Translation Theory and Practices, Curriculum & Instruction, Testing, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, and Higher Education. She has been teaching English and Education for over 30 years in universities in China and the USA. She achieved the rank of Full Professor of English and Education in 1998 in China, where she also had 20 years of mid-level and senior administrative experiences in academic and international affairs, and was selected for local, provincial and national awards for outstanding achievements in teaching, research and service. She has extensive experiences and expertise working with graduate, undergraduate, and ESL students. She is highly published in academic topics pertaining to applied linguistics, world literature, translational research, and education, including 13 authored or co-authored books, 23 refereed journal articles, and 16 translated articles. She has attended over 30 local, national and international conferences and presented papers at many of them.
How has the degree helped you in your career? This degree seeking process is a forever-inspiring experience that has taught me the alternatives to balance the triad core missions of teaching, research, and service, and has prepared me for greater potential fulfillments personally, academically, and professionally. Just more than one year after graduation, I published, presented, and submitted (in press) 11 papers/monographs generated from this program.
