Dr. Michael A. Johnson earned his Ph.D. in Learning Technologies from the University of North Texas. His primary research areas include instructional design, curriculum development, and the application of educational technologies across formal and informal learning environments. His research also examines how media, culture, and technology shape learning, motivation, engagement, identity, and social behavior, with particular interests in computing education, digital and popular culture, social networks, and generational experiences. He is a passionate researcher with particular experience in interpretative phenomenological analysis, an approach that examines how individuals make sense of their lived experiences.

Dr. Johnson has published in scholarly outlets such as Information and Learning Sciences and has presented at national and international conferences, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA), International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS), the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE), The Connected Learning Summit (CLS), IEEE Frontiers in Education, and the Computer Science Teachers Association (CTSA). He also serves as a reviewer for academic organizations and journals in education, instructional design, the learning sciences, and educational technology. With more than 16 years of experience across K–12 and higher education, Dr. Johnson draws on his teaching and research background to connect theory with applied instructional practices.
