Apply now for Collections + Care: A Digital Humanities Convening!
Do you have photos or recordings of family members you want to preserve? Are you part of an organization that wants to organize its brochures, flyers, or records? Is there a box of papers in your house you want to scan?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then consider submitting an application for the 2027 Digital Humanities Convening with the Margaret Walker Center! This workshop series will be held at the COFO Civil Rights Education Center (1017 John R. Lynch Street) the week of February 22, 2027, Monday through Friday. During the sessions, participants will receive training in an array of topics including scanning and digitizing materials, collecting oral histories, creating metadata, building websites, and developing strategies to share their collections. Margaret Walker Center staff will lead the workshops along with speakers from guest organizations.
Expectations:
- Participants are expected to attend each full day. (In the case of an individual applying on behalf of an organization, i.e. a church or sorority, different individuals from the organization may attend on different days if needed.)
- Participants should be prepared to transport their materials for digitization to and from the COFO Center.
- Space is limited for the convening. Please submit only one application per person or organization.
Participants receive:
- Lunch each day, with a closing reception on Friday, February 26.
- $1000 stipend upon completion of the convening. (In the case of an organization, this may be split between attending members or given to the organization itself.)
- Personal portable hard drive to store and preserve their work.
