“Margaret Walker & the Power of Words”
Opened to the public in October 2025, the Margaret Walker Center’s “Margaret Walker & the Power of Words” exhibit leads visitors through Walker’s life and legacy as an author, professor, and founder. The space features a plethora of archival documents including selections of Walker’s journals, correspondence, and rare books. Additionally, thanks to interactive audio and visual components, visitors can listen to Walker reading her own pieces. A journaling corner invites guests to reflect on their personal experiences with literature, social justice, and community.
“Margaret Walker & the Power of Words” is located on Jackson State University’s campus in Gallery 1 at One University Place, 1154 John R. Lynch Street, Suite 4.
