JSU Choirs Descriptions
CHORALE
Chorale is the premiere choral ensemble at Jackson State University. It is open to all Jackson State University students. This choir performs music in a diverse array of styles and genres, including repertoire from the classical and contemporary choral tradition, gospel songs, and traditional spirituals. Chorale enjoys a robust performance schedule, touring locally and throughout the country. This ensemble of 40-50 singers is proud to represent the university president, alumni, and the institution as student ambassadors of Thee I Love!
An audition is required to participate.
UNIVERSITY CHOIR
University Choir is a large choral ensemble of 70-100 singers. This dynamic ensemble is open to all JSU students! The choir sings all types of music– choral music, gospel repertoire, spirituals, and jazz. University Choir presents a concert each semester, as well as periodically performs on and off campus throughout the school year.
An audition is required to participate.
VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble (VJE) is a small ensemble open to all JSU students. In addition to performing great jazz standards, this incredible group also sings music from many other genres– blues, R&B, Soul, and gospel. Performing on campus and throughout the community, VJE proudly represents both the Jazz Studies area and the Vocal area in the Department of Music.
