Two Jackson State University civil engineering students were selected as Minority Student Fellows at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies. They received this honor at the 95th Annual Meeting held Jan. 10 -14 in Washington, D.C.,

Undergraduate senior, Alesha Jackson, presented her research entitled, “Laboratory Study of Flexure Mold on Properties of Bio-Inspired Sandy Soil” during the poster session. Her academic advisor is Dr. Lin Li in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

“We are proud of the results our students have accomplished through dedication and hours of work,” said Dr. Li

Graduate student, Charles McKenzie’s research entitled, “Laboratory Study of SediMeters™ in Determining Turbulent Sediment Accumulation during Dredging Operations” was also presented during the poster session. His academic advisor is Dr. Feng Wang in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at JSU.

“Mr. McKenzie has set himself apart through his attention to detail and hard work,” said Dr. Wang.

Both, McKenzie and Jackson, were recognized by the senior administrators of the Federal Highway Administration and the Department of Transportation and were among 19 elite fellows selected nation-wide.
