ABOUT THE PROGRAM
What is Air Force ROTC?
Air Force ROTC is a college program that allows you to earn your degree while training to become an Air Force officer. Air Force ROTC offers challenges and benefits that will foster individual growth that cannot be found elsewhere in college.
You will build leadership, management and many other skills while in the program. After completing all of your degree and training requirements, you will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
Air Force ROTC Curriculum
The curriculum is divided into the General Military Course (GMC) and Professional Officer Course (POC). The GMC lectures are 1-credit hour courses in Air Force history and general military knowledge. POC lectures are 3-credit hour courses covering leadership, management and national security policy. Both POC and GMC cadets participate in a weekly leadership laboratory (LLAB), where they engage in a variety of activities, including group leadership projects and drill and ceremonies. In addition to lecture and LLAB, cadets participate in physical training sessions twice a week.
All cadets are required to attend LEAD Training, a course usually completed during the summer between sophomore and junior year. LEAD is a physically and mentally challenging series of group projects, fitness activities and leadership exercises.
Junior ROTC and Civil Air Patrol Alumni
Junior ROTC (JROTC) and Military High School JROTC Alumni may be excused from taking one to all four GMC 1-credit hour courses depending on the number years a cadet participated in JROTC (Air Force, Army, Navy or Marines) during high school. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) may be excused from taking one to three GMC 1-credit hour courses depending on level of CAP Award the cadet acheived.
