An experienced and proven leader in higher education, Dr. Sheila C. Porterfield is Associate Dean in the College of Business at Jackson State University and holds the academic rank of Associate Professor.  As Associate Dean, she serves on the College of Business Leadership Team and assists in various facets of administering and developing AACSB accredited academic degree programs and in providing guidance and support in the service of faculty staff, and students.  Dr. Porterfield is supportive of students and works with others in the College to help ensure that they receive a quality education and positive experiences throughout their matriculation. She also serves as Director of the Jackson State University College of Business Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) where she leads and collaborates with a team of dedicated faculty and staff to assist students in their career and professional growth and development.

As a member of the higher education community, Dr. Porterfield exhibits commitment to the mission of providing academic education, leadership, and service in the College of Business and at Jackson State University as well as in the higher education and business communities.  Dr. Porterfield has served the College and the University in various leadership capacities such as Chair of College and University Curriculum Committees and Chair of the University Strategic Planning Committee. 

Dr. Porterfield has made intellectual contributions in the form of refereed journal publications, a research publication award, conference presentations, citation of work in major journals, and conference presentations.   Additionally, she has served the business community through service as a workshop and seminar leader.  Further, she is the recipient of funded grants and proposals. Dr. Porterfield holds membership with professional organizations and serves on non-profit boards.  Moreover, Dr. Porterfield contributes, volunteers, and provides supports to various organizations in the non-profit community.
