The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Psychometric Services, which offers graduate level training for aspiring counselors and psychometrist, received national accreditation for it’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Prospective Students
The Mission of the Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Psychometric Services is to develop competent, and fully functioning clinical mental health, school, rehabilitation counselors, and psychometric professionals. The Department fully continually challenges itself to meet the lifelong educational needs of its students, as well as the ever-changing needs of the urban and rural communities, agencies, organizations, associations, and clientele in which it serves. The mission also promotes the concept of the quality service delivery and the provision of clinical, school, rehabilitation, and psychometric services to a diverse and multiculturally faceted clientele and population.
OBJECTIVES
1. To keep all three (3) Masters programs up to standard with our accrediting body in order to maintain a successful site visit in 2023 (CACREP).
2. Continue to develop and build upon the existing Departmental Assessment plan that is currently already in place.
3. To publish at least 1 scholarly publication per year either in a book or Peer-Reviewed Journal.
4. To develop a more technologically advanced Department through more innovative teaching and course delivery methods.
5. Continue to Develop Departmental Recruitment Strategies in all Five Programs in order to obtain a higher number of minority students.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Counseling students will demonstrate knowledge of the history, philosophy and trends in counseling and the roles and functions of counselors.
2. Counseling students will demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories, multicultural counseling, group process, research in counseling, and counseling core conditions.
3. Counseling students will demonstrate a commitment to adhering to ethical standards and the practice of advocacy.
4. Counseling students will demonstrate effective counseling skills with diverse populations.
