Da'Ja'Nay Askew, PhD
Dr. Da’Ja’Nay Jakia’ Askew is a scholar, educator, and consultant committed to transforming higher education through equity, data, and healing. She currently serves as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Educational Administration and Higher Education in the College of Education and Human Development at Jackson State University.
Dr. Askew holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University, with minors in Human Development and certificates in Quantitative Research and Inquiry Methodology and Institutional Research. Her research critically examines how faculty relationships shape Black students' sense of belonging at private liberal arts institutions, employing culturally responsive and critical quantitative methods. In addition to this primary focus, Dr. Askew’s scholarly interests extend to the exploration of academic trauma and healing, as well as the role of peer-led writing communities in supporting doctoral student persistence and well-being.
With over a decade of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and educational consulting, Dr. Askew is recognized for her work in anti-racist pedagogy, institutional equity, and faith-based healing. She has designed and led inclusive learning environments across educational levels, empowering students and educators through culturally grounded practices.
A sought-after speaker and emerging thought leader, Dr. Askew has presented her research and facilitated workshops at national and international conferences. She is the founder of The Healed Scholar, a brand and consulting platform that promotes academic well-being and belonging among historically marginalized communities.
Dr. Askew is passionate about advancing data-informed, justice-centered practices that humanize education and foster belonging. Through her scholarship, teaching, and public engagement, she continues to advocate for inclusive excellence and transformative change in higher education and beyond.
