Dr. Adrianne L. Swinney is a passionate servant leader and change agent who seeks to bring about positive
transformation and impact to the people and places around her. She has vast professional and educational experiences within higher education having served in various leadership capacities (some executive in nature) at both Doctoral Tier RI and RII institutions, public & private, HBCUs & PWIs. Her unique abilities as a visionary, strategic mind, problem solver, consensus manager, teacher, mentor and writer have empowered over 20 years of successful service and leadership in higher education. As an Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership here at Jackson State University (JSU), Dr. Swinney’s goal is to promote organizational transformation by marrying principles of education and leadership to enhance student learning outcomes, course development, and program and policy efficiency.

Swinney is no stranger to JSU, having earned her PhD here in 2022 and currently in her 3rd stint of employment with the university. Adrianne earned a M.A. in Management from Dallas Baptist University and a B.S. in Education from Mississippi State University. Dr. Swinney has served on various local, regional, and national boards, most notably:

• The NCAA Division I Board of Directors (2020-2021)
• Women Leaders in Sports Board of Directors (2018-2021)
• UCONN President’s Task Force on Student
Mental Health & Well-Being (Spring 2020)
• UNCW Chancellor’s Leadership Council (2014-2018)
