G. Kaye Thompson-Rogers

Span of Responsibility: My work consists of working with students in the College of Liberal Arts in designated academic areas, conferring with them regarding degree requirements, and their academic progress. In this position I assist them in their selection of courses for future semesters. I also help students in planning their own education, and problem solving by giving them appropriate resources. As the student matriculates I provide them referral for campus student services as needed based on each individual case. I complement the work of the Faculty Advisors by providing academic advising services at peak times. Participate in the overall training for the faculty advising sessions. Provide updated informational workshops on academic advising. As an advisor I focus on student’s professional goals, but stimulate their intellectual and academic development.

How has this Ph.D. helped your career? I pursued the PhD as self-gratification. The decision was not to seek the degree to pursue a higher position in academe, but to master the subject of higher education and contribute to the body of knowledge. Receiving the PhD in August 2007 has made a positive impact on me extending my knowledge as I explore, investigate and consider areas of interest that I plan to target and do further research. The research and the networking components have been very instrumental in my career.
