To preserve contemporary African American history, The Margaret Walker Center, in collaboration with the JSU English department, is documenting the JSU community’s response to COVID-19, the recent racial violence and protest, and the impact of these to the lives of students.
We are truly interested in how JSU students are reacting, adjusting to and living through disruption, anxiety, isolation, and anger caused by both viruses – within the body and society.
We have decided to seek out the stories of our students through an oral history project entitled “Storytellers of a Pandemic: An Oral History on the Impact of COVID-19 on HBCU Students”.
We intend this project to become a part of the oral history archive and help future researchers understand how we experienced this unexpected situation.
