Class of 2021 Graduate Commencement/May 7th/Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center (AAC)/ Time: 9 am
Our Friday morning (May 7th) event will be held indoors at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. Saturday (May 8th) ceremonies will be held outdoors at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Masks will be required at all times. Please know that if the status of the pandemic changes, or if the state’s event guidelines change, these ceremonies could also change. At this time, here is what you can expect:
- Each graduate will be allocated eight guest tickets for friends and family. All eight guests must enter the venue together and sit in the same seating area. More information on tickets will be provided to graduates soon.
- Locations and times of ceremonies are as follows:
Class of 2021 Graduate Commencement
Date: May 7th
Location: Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center (AAC)
Time: 9 am (The Golden Diploma Class of 1971 will also participate in this ceremony.
- Graduates will be seated in physically distanced seats and will be invited to walk across the stage while their names are called.
- Graduates will be instructed to arrive at the venue at staggered times to minimize the number of individuals arriving at the same time.
- To minimize contact with others, graduates will not shake hands. Photos will be taken, but social distancing will be maintained.
- Also, to minimize contact, graduates will not be hooded as part of the ceremonies. Instead, graduate hoods/stoles, honor cords, etc. will be distributed in advance so graduates can wear them during the ceremonies.
- To minimize contact among guests, there will not be a printed commencement program.
- There will be a minimal platform party and minimal attendance by JSU faculty to reduce the density of people at the ceremonies. Consequently, there will be no faculty or student processions at any of the ceremonies. Only marshals will process. Upon arrival to the venue, students will be directed to their designated seats.
- The commencement will be supported by professional event staff who will direct participants to appropriate seating, facilitate physical distancing and ensure appropriate use of masks.
All ceremonies will be live-streamed. A link to video access will be available via the JSU Website prior to the ceremony. It will also be broadcasted on Facebook as well as the JSUTv page.
