About: Horton, of Clinton, has worked in the mental health field for a total of 15+ years. Horton presently serves as the Director of the Latasha Norman Center for Counseling Services; motivating and empowering students to achieve the mental fortitude for success in all aspects of their lives. Horton also serves as an advocate, and agent of change for its students; where his notable experience includes extensive work with suicidality, anger management, self-esteem, bipolar, anxiety, depression, and other multifaceted behavior implications. Horton utilizes solution focused, evidence-based, resilience-building interventions to support students in optimizing their mental health. As Horton states, “I believe in turning pain into power, as well as in the power of redemption. Stories are powerful and we all deserve the opportunity to tell ours and to have a second chance at life. The human parts of you matter.” Horton also serves as an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Psychology as well. He holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, both from Jackson State University. His interests carry over into music as well.

About: Mrs. Washington has an expansive background in mental health, social work, education and tourism. She is a proud alumna of Jackson State University, and has pursued her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work and Community Counseling. Mrs. Washington currently serves as a mental health counselor as well as the Assistant Director at the Latasha Norman Center for Counseling Services at Jackson State University.

Areas of Expertise: Anxiety, Grief, Body-image, Self esteem issues, College transitioning, CBT and Rogerian therapeutic approaches

Fun Fact: Mrs. Washington loves to travel and experience different cultures, art, and dining.

 

Frederick O’Quinn, M.S., P-LPC

About: O’Quinn has over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health in the areas of case management, mental health and substance abuse counseling. This also includes experience in research aimed at addressing the issues of the incarcerated mentally ill. O’Quinn’s main area of focus is the role of emotional awareness in mental health, the promotion of help seeking behaviors, and substance abuse recovery.

Fun Fact: I have volunteered to help two families construct their homes with Habitat for Humanity.

About: Selina Drummond is a mental health counselor with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Jackson State University. She brings warmth, insight, and over a decade of experience in mental health. Her holistic approach is shaped by years of working with diverse populations and a deep respect for the emotional and cognitive processes that influence behavior. She is known for her intuitive understanding of patterns, strong problem-solving skills, and commitment to empowering clients through evidence-based care. She brings a compassionate, holistic lens to therapy especially for those navigating anxiety, grief, relationship conflicts, and adjustment disorders.
