The School of Lifelong Learning (SLL) meets the needs of present day workers and adult learners, 25 years of age and older, across the state, region, and nation.
Prospective Students
The School of Lifelong Learning at Jackson State expands access to higher education for adult learners and nontraditional students, offering flexible pathways for academic advancement, career development, and professional training. Our mission is to empower individuals to complete undergraduate degrees, prepare for graduate school, and develop leadership and workforce skills that support lifelong success.
The School includes three specialized units:
- Academic Unit – Offers undergraduate degrees in Professional Interdisciplinary Studies and University Studies, designed for working adults seeking degree completion.
- Center for Professional Development – Provides career training, certification programs, and personal development courses to help professionals upskill and advance.
- Continuing Education Learning Center – Administers GED and High School Equivalency Testing, enabling adults to pursue further education or new career opportunities.

Student Advising & Support Services
The faculty and staff advisors in the School of Lifelong Learning are committed to helping all students make informed academic and career development decisions. Our advisors are prepared to share appropriate, accurate, and timely information at every stage of your academic career. Each student admitted is assigned a departmental faculty advisor who is responsible for supporting student success by:
- Assisting you in selecting your interdisciplinary program of study.
- Helping you get connected to campus resources.
- Coaching you through the graduate school application process.
- Mentoring you through the job application (or career transition) process.

LEARN BY DOING
The mission of the School of Lifelong Learning is to prepare nontraditional adult learners for employment, promotion, and “lifelong learning” in various career fields. We equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to pursue graduate study or positions in their chosen profession by providing learners with coursework and learning opportunities which build 21st professional competencies – collaboration/teamwork, leadership, organizational management, critical analysis, problem solving, communication, research-based inquiry and decision making.
The School of Lifelong Learning provides a flexible, transfer-friendly, interdisciplinary program of study that affords students the opportunity to apply previously earned credits to accelerate their time to degree completion and also design a program of study that can be tailored to students’ academic, personal, and professional goals.
APPLY YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Students who complete the General Professional Interdisciplinary Studies Concentration are prepared to enter graduate school, apply for entry level positions in their 27-hour professional emphasis area, pursue a career transition or promotion in an existing career. Recent graduates have launched careers and/or pursued graduate studies in:

Human Resources Development is a strategic multidisciplinary field dedicated to optimizing human potential within organizations. The demand for skilled HRD professionals is robust and growing. As one of the few professions critical to every industry, from tech and healthcare to non-profit and government, HRD offers unparalleled opportunities to build a versatile and resilient career with global relevance.
