The School is comprised of two major units: (1) The Department of Professional Interdisciplinary Studies (academic credit) and (2) The Center for Professional Development (non-academic credit).
Within the Department of Professional Interdisciplinary Studies, students may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Professional Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in General Interdisciplinary Studies, Human Resource Development, Commercial Recreation & Resorts, and Faith-based Leadership.
The Center for Professional Development offers training and professional development through the following programs:
- Continuing Education Learning Center (CELC)
- Institute for Educational Renewal (INFER)
- Southwest Mississippi Education Consortium (SMEC)
- Southwest Mississippi World-Class Teaching Initiative (SMWCTI) for national board certification.
The School of Lifelong Learning is located in the E.E. Thrash Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road in Jackson, Mississippi. We are a metropolitan learning center for state, local, public, and private agencies. We also have classroom facilities for both graduate and undergraduate students.
The School of Lifelong Learning staff is dedicated to providing quality education to adults. As we advance, Jackson State University is redefining Lifelong Learning by developing cutting edge programs and seminars of interest to the community. The ultimate goal is to bring together the resources of the university, public and private schools, industry, government, and community to jointly address problems affecting our quality of life.
The School of Lifelong Learning was established by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning in November 2002.
